Charitable Drinking
at London Underground

Every time you visit London Underground, you have two opportunities to help raise funds for worthy causes:

Old Fashioned For A Cause: Like our other expert pairings, we've selected a charitable cause and a spirit that matches the theme of the organization. Every Old Fashioned For A Cause that you purchase includes a $2 donation to the listed charity. Charity partners change on a quarterly basis.

Critical Blessing: If you're feeling brave enough to Roll Your Fortune and roll a D20 dice to determine your shot, you can choose to add an additional dice - your blessing - and select which roll and corresponding shot you most prefer. Each blessing/additional dice is $2 and you can add as many blessings as you'd like, but remember you only get one shot from the rolls.

Black'd Out Books

Funds Donated: Raising Funds Now!

Black voices and stories deserve to be heard.

Cameron Gray is a local Ames Artist who has worked to bring Black Free Libraries to life. His project,

Black’d Out Books, aims to build accessibility of books penned by Black authors and surrounding the Black experience, ultimately bringing the beauty of Black literature to a community in which it is lacking. He hopes that these Free Black Libraries will foster a better understanding of Black culture and the community at large.

Black Excellence deserves to be celebrated.

Our base spirit this month is Appleton Estate Rum.

Joy Spence, the first black woman master blender in rum history, has trailblazed rum blending for more than 30 years. Her iconic work to celebrate Jamaican rum has also elevated and created more spaces for young persons of color to step into the world of beverage alcohol.

Enjoy this delicious Jamaican Old Fashioned in her honor!

The Octagon OUT Exhibition

Funds Donated: $742

OUT extends an invitation to connect to the LGBTQIA+ community with authenticity. The artwork featured in OUT presents communities in a way that contains abundance, masses, and movements that are neither monolithic nor are they stagnant. London Underground is proud to host "a hot haven."

Piper Smith is a recent graduate of Iowa State with a Bachelor's Degree in Performing Arts. She loves to utilize the arts, especially theatre, to contribute to her community and elicit positive change. She also loves painting and the ability it gives her to express herself.

This quarter, we are featuring Slipknot No.9, an Iowa-made whiskey crafted by Slipknot, one of Iowa's most prolific and celebrated bands. We recognize music as a key artistic expression and are proud to feature Cedar Ridge's craftsmanship in this musical whiskey!

The Trevor Project

Funds Donated: $724

The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people. The organization works to save young lives by providing support through free and confidential suicide prevention and crisis intervention programs on platforms where young people spend their time: a 24/7 phone lifeline, chat, text and soon-to-come integrations with social media platforms.

This quarter, we are celebrating with Old Forester, a member of Brown-Forman - a top-scoring Human Rights Campaign Index Employer. This commitment to their LGBTQ+ staff extends to Caleb Trigo, the Operations Team Leader at Old Forester. Caleb enjoys the challenge of overseeing every aspect of production and keeps a picture of his husband on his desk for motivation.

This quarter, we are celebrating with Maker's Mark Whisky as a nod to Margie Samuels, the matriarch behind Maker's Mark Whisky. From developing the crucial bourbon recipe to cutting each bottle's label by hand, Margie built and grew Maker's Mark whisky alongside her husband, Bill Samuels.

Margie is one of many women in whiskey past and present and one we are proud to celebrate this month!

Black Excellence deserves to be celebrated.

This month, London Underground is celebrating the work of Cameron Gray, a local Ames Artist, and his work to bring Black Free Libraries to life. Our featured cocktail this month, Cam’s Favorite Old Fashioned, is a celebration of the Black-owned and led brand Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. Founded by Fawn Weaver and launched in 2017, Uncle Nearest celebrates the life and story of Nathan “Nearest” Green, the first Master Distiller of Jack Daniel's. Green is now acknowledged as the first African American Master Distiller in the United States, a feat he accomplished as a free man after the Civil War.

$2 from each cocktail sold this month will be donated directly to Cameron Gray's Black’d Out Libraries project. We will also be collecting books for the project – please bring in any books by Black authors that you want to donate and we will get them into Cam’s hands!
